Hydraulic Filter

Hydraulic Filter

The internal parts of a vehicle produce fine particles due to friction, and along with contaminants generated from engine combustion, they enter the engine oil. Therefore, in order for the oil and engine to perform efficiently, these particles must be removed. For this purpose, a filter is placed inside the housing. In fact, one of the most important parts of a vehicle is the hydraulic filter or oil filter, which is responsible for removing contaminating particles from the fluid. These filters come in various sizes and can be easily replaced.

How a Hydraulic Filter Works

In suction or return-type hydraulic filters, the fluid enters from the top and exits from the bottom. This allows the filtered oil to easily flow from the bottom of the filter into the reservoir. Additionally, a return path with a relief valve is provided next to the inlet port, ensuring that if the filter is taken out of the circuit, the pump circuit still has fluid flow.

In pressure-line filters, the oil inlet and outlet are positioned opposite each other. Hydraulic fluid enters the filtration chamber through the inlet, surrounds the filter element, and then passes through the filter’s paper layers. After filtration, the clean oil moves toward the outlet, completing the process before exiting the filter housing.

The Best Time to Replace a Hydraulic Filter

It is recommended to replace the filter every time the oil is changed. The replacement time of the hydraulic filter fully depends on the oil change interval and the vehicle’s working conditions. Sometimes, the vehicle’s check engine light turns on, indicating that the filter needs replacement. Furthermore, if the engine is under heavy load or the vehicle is used in tough conditions, the filter should be replaced more frequently.

As you know, despite the important and sensitive role of the oil filter, it is reasonably priced. Therefore, paying attention to its condition and replacing it on time prevents damage to other vehicle components and ensures optimal performance.
